Diagnose and manage your vehicle's health with Piston, the powerful OBD2 diagnostic app. Instantly access your car's diagnostic information, turning your mobile device into a sophisticated car scanner. See that Check Engine Light (MIL)? Piston reads and decodes Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and Freeze Frame data, providing crucial insights to pinpoint and resolve issues quickly.
You'll need an ELM327-based Bluetooth or Wi-Fi adapter, easily connected to your vehicle's OBD2 port. Piston provides clear connection instructions accessible from the Home page after installation or within the Settings menu.
Piston empowers you to:
- Read and clear OBD2-standard Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
- Examine Freeze Frame data (sensor readings at the moment of a malfunction)
- Monitor real-time sensor data
- Check Readiness Monitor status (emission control systems)
- Save DTC history locally or securely in the cloud
- View sensor data charts
- Export real-time sensor data
- Retrieve your vehicle's VIN
- Access ECU details (OBD protocol, PID count)
Note: Some features are Premium and require a one-time in-app purchase—no subscriptions!
Piston requires a separate ELM327 adapter (Bluetooth or Wi-Fi) and is compatible with OBD-II (OBDII, OBD2) and EOBD standards. OBD2 is mandated for US vehicles from 1996. In the EU, EOBD applies to petrol cars from 2001 and diesel cars from 2004. For Australia and New Zealand, OBD2 is required for petrol cars from 2006 and diesel cars from 2007.
Important: Piston only accesses data your vehicle supports and transmits via the OBD2 standard.
