Alienware Slashes Prices on RTX 4090 Gaming PCs
The GeForce RTX 4090, while a generation older than the new Blackwell 50 series GPUs, remains a powerhouse in the world of graphics cards, outshining the GeForce RTX 5080, RTX 4080 Super, Radeon RX 9070 XT, and RX 7900 XTX. The only GPU that surpasses it is the RTX 5090, which is notoriously difficult to find without a hefty markup.
As the RTX 4090 has been discontinued, finding one has become increasingly challenging. However, Dell offers two prebuilt gaming PC options equipped with this formidable GPU at competitive prices. The Alienware Aurora R16 starts at $2,999.99, while the Dell Tower Plus begins at $2,849.99. These are among the best deals available for an RTX 4090-equipped system, as other manufacturers like Lenovo and HP have ceased offering RTX 4090 prebuilt PCs.
Alienware Aurora R16 RTX 4090 Gaming PC
Alienware Aurora R16 Intel Core Ultra 7 265F RTX 4090 Gaming PC
$2,999.99 at Alienware
This Alienware Aurora R16 gaming PC comes with an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. The CPU can be upgraded to an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, but for gaming, the default Intel Core Ultra 7 265F is more than sufficient. With a max turbo frequency of 5.3GHz and 20 cores, it's a robust choice. The system is cooled by a 240mm all-in-one liquid cooler and powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.
Dell Tower Plus RTX 4090 Gaming PC
New Dell Tower Plus Intel Core Ultra 7 265F RTX 4090 Gaming PC
$3,149.99 save 10% $2,849.99 at Dell
The Dell Tower Plus may appear modest on the outside, but it's packed with similar high-end components: an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. For an additional $100, upgrading to the Intel Core Ultra 7 285K is advisable. This upgrade not only improves performance but also enhances the cooling system from "standard air cooling" to "advanced air cooling," which is better suited for a 125W TDP. The system is powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.
How does the RTX 4090 stack up against current cards?
The RTX 4090 is the pinnacle of the RTX 40 series GPUs. Only the RTX 5090, with its $2,000 MSRP, outperforms it. This card effortlessly handles 4K gaming, delivering over 60 fps with max settings and ray tracing enabled, particularly when DLSS is in play. The only area where it struggles, like all GPUs, is with path tracing, which is typically used for benchmarking or social media showcases. For most gamers, the RTX 4090's performance is more than enough, making the RTX 5090's additional power somewhat redundant.
Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 GPU Review by Chris Coke
"The RTX 4090 may be large and pricey, but it delivers unparalleled performance. As the sole representative of its generation currently available, it's only fair to compare it to cards from the past few years. With its impressive hardware and DLSS 3 AI technology, the $1,599 price tag feels justified for the exceptional frame rates it provides."

$2,399.99 at Alienware
Dell offers the Alienware Aurora R16 with the new GeForce RTX 5080 GPU for $2,499.99. The RTX 5080, part of the new Blackwell series, is scarce. In our Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 FE review, Jackie notes, "For those with recent high-end GPUs, the RTX 5080 might not be a significant upgrade over the RTX 4080. However, its DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation does enhance visuals in supported games. If you're upgrading from an older GPU, the RTX 5080 offers a substantial performance boost, especially if you're keen on Nvidia's AI enhancements."
