Steam Player Count Surges Following Patch 8 Release

The monumental RPG Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) has received its conclusive major update, marking the end of an era. On April 15, 2025, Larian Studios deployed BG3's Patch 8, triggering a significant player resurgence that propelled the game into Steam's top 15 most-played titles. Previously maintaining approximately 60,000 concurrent players, the title now boasts over 169,000 simultaneous players.

Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke acknowledged this resurgence on Twitter (X) on April 22, highlighting how vibrant modding support enables their team to focus on developing their "next ambitious project." As previously reported, the studio is moving beyond the Dungeons & Dragons universe to create original content.

This transition means Wizards of the Coast and parent company Hasbro will continue the Baldur’s Gate series independently, currently evaluating potential development partners for a possible Baldur’s Gate 4.

12 Fresh Subclasses, Photo Mode, and Additional Features

The final update, initially announced in November 2024 through Steam blog posts, introduces 12 new subclasses along with photo mode and cross-play functionality. The developers published complete patch notes on BG3's official website, revealing extensive bug fixes and combat refinements beyond their November preview.

Larian Studios demonstrated their commitment to polish through numerous technical improvements in this ultimate update. While confirming this as their last major patch, the studio reaffirmed ongoing support for the modding community.
