BioWare's Veilguard Director Departs

Feb 21,25

Corinne Busche, the director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is reportedly departing from BioWare, an EA-owned studio. Eurogamer reported her departure, slated for the coming weeks, after leading the game's development from February 2022 until its launch last year. EA has yet to comment.

The commercial success of Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been a subject of speculation since its October release. While Eurogamer indicates Busche's departure is unrelated to the game's performance, EA's official stance on sales figures remains pending. Their Q3 2025 financial results, expected February 4th, may offer clarity.

BioWare has confirmed there are no plans for Dragon Age: The Veilguard DLC, shifting focus instead to Mass Effect 5. This follows August 2023 layoffs affecting approximately 50 employees, including veteran narrative designer Mary Kirby. These personnel changes coincided with broader internal restructuring at EA, dividing the company into sports and non-sports divisions, and fueled rumors of BioWare's potential acquisition. The decision to transition Star Wars: The Old Republic to a third-party publisher was ostensibly to allow BioWare to concentrate on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

The Dragon Age reveal in 2024 initially faced negative fan reaction, prompting a swift release of early gameplay footage. The title change from Dreadwolf to The Veilguard also drew criticism. However, subsequent impressions were generally more positive.

The future of the Dragon Age franchise remains uncertain. Whether BioWare will receive the opportunity to develop a sequel to The Veilguard remains a question for fans.
