Blade Trilogy Writer Questions MCU Reboot Delay

The screenwriter behind Wesley Snipes' Blade trilogy has expressed readiness to collaborate with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige on Mahershala Ali's delayed MCU reboot.

The long-awaited Marvel Cinematic Universe installment has faced numerous obstacles in recent years, with Blade's production currently at a standstill despite earlier momentum.

Last month, musician Flying Lotus revealed on X/Twitter his scrapped involvement: "I was contracted to compose for the new BLADE before the project collapsed," said the director of Shudder's sci-fi horror ASH. "While a revival seems unlikely, the opportunity would've been exciting."

Costume designer Ruth E. Carter disclosed on The John Campea Show her unrealized 1920s-era wardrobe concepts for the film, which promised innovative period production design before development stalled.

Co-star Delroy Lindo corroborated these setbacks during his Entertainment Weekly interview: "Marvel initially welcomed creative collaboration," he recalled. "The character development showed tremendous promise before the project ultimately derailed."

Originally announced at 2019's San Diego Comic-Con with planned November 2024 release, Blade has cycled through multiple directors including Yann Demange and Bassam Tariq without securing permanent leadership.

Original trilogy screenwriter David S. Goyer voiced bewilderment to ScreenRant: "As a Marvel enthusiast, I remain perplexed by these delays," said Goyer, who remains open to contributing. "The character deserves proper execution."

Though removed from Marvel's schedule seven months prior, Feige reiterated commitment during his Omelete interview: "Blade remains in active development with Mahershala's compelling interpretation. We'll update fans as plans solidify."

The character's brief appearance in $1.3 billion hit Deadpool & Wolverine reignited fan interest, prompting Ryan Reynolds to advocate for Snipes' Blade to receive a Logan-style farewell film.

"Blade pioneered the modern superhero genre," Reynolds asserted on social media. "The entire Marvel universe owes its existence to these groundbreaking films."

The actor reportedly seeks to develop an ensemble project spotlighting lesser-known X-Men characters while allowing Deadpool to play a supporting role, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
