The Blood of Dawnwalker: A Dark Fantasy RPG Unveiled

Rebel Wolves' recently revealed The Blood of Dawnwalker, an open-world dark fantasy action-RPG, promises a compelling narrative experience. The game, showcased at its January 16th reveal event, offers a unique blend of action and story-driven gameplay.

Meet Coen, the Dawnwalker

Players embody Coen, a Dawnwalker—a being existing between human and vampire—in the fictional 14th-century European setting of Vale Sangora. Narrative director Jakub Szamalek describes Coen as an emotionally complex and relatable protagonist, unlike typical game heroes. Coen's journey begins with a desperate race against time—30 days and nights—to save his family from the tyrannical vampire Brencis, who holds Vale Sangora in his grasp. While the game operates on a modified time scale, offering extensive playtime.

The reveal trailer hints at Coen's unique abilities, showcasing superhuman agility and control over occult magic, distinct from typical fantasy spellcasting. The magic system, as clarified on the game's Discord server, focuses on rituals, amulets, and summonings rather than flashy, overt displays of power.

A Narrative Sandbox with Choices

Despite Coen's central quest, The Blood of Dawnwalker emphasizes player agency. The game is designed as a "narrative sandbox," offering multiple paths to achieve the main objective. This nonlinear structure ensures a dynamic world that reacts to player choices. To preserve this single-player experience, multiplayer or co-op modes are absent. However, the game will feature romanceable characters from various races, including uriashi, kobolds, and potentially even werewolves, adding depth to Coen's journey.

Developed by a team of former CD Projekt Red developers (known for The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077), The Blood of Dawnwalker is slated for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, though a specific release date is yet to be announced.
