Bloodlines 2 Team Unveils Core Mechanics in Latest Dev Diary
The Chinese Room studio has released an exciting new development diary for *Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2*, showcasing fresh gameplay footage. This latest update highlights how players will experience the thrill of hunting as a vampire within the game.
In the *Vampire: The Masquerade* universe, vampires adhere to the Masquerade—a strict code that mandates keeping their supernatural existence concealed from the human population. This principle is integrated into *Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2* through a Masquerade meter, which monitors actions that could potentially expose a vampire's true nature.
The game features a dynamic system where breaching the Masquerade triggers visible indicators on an eye icon at the top of the screen, categorized into three levels:
- Green: Indicates a minor breach, which can be rectified simply by hiding.
- Yellow: Signals that the player has committed several infractions, possibly fed on humans, or used aggressive powers. At this stage, players must manage witnesses or evade attracting significant attention from law enforcement.
- Red: Marks a severe violation of the Masquerade, resulting in active pursuit by the police. The best course of action here is to flee and hide, as the Camarilla—the vampire governing body—will intervene once the meter is fully compromised, as demonstrated in the gameplay clip.
To mitigate their "infamy" and reduce the risk of exposure, players have various strategies at their disposal: they can manipulate witnesses to forget their encounters or take more drastic measures by eliminating them. If the police become involved, the most straightforward approach is to find a safe place to hide and wait for the situation to de-escalate.
The developers have assured fans that the challenge of maintaining the Masquerade will intensify as players progress through *Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2*. To successfully uphold the Masquerade, players must act swiftly and make strategic decisions to keep their vampiric nature a secret.
