Borderlands 4 Fan Test Amazed by Early Access
A Borderlands Fan's Dream Comes True: Early Access to Borderlands 4
Caleb McAlpine, a devoted Borderlands fan battling cancer, recently lived out a dream: playing the highly anticipated Borderlands 4 early, thanks to the incredible support of the gaming community and Gearbox Software. This inspiring story highlights the power of online communities and corporate compassion.
Gearbox's Act of Kindness
A Borderlands 4 Preview
On November 26th, Caleb shared his extraordinary experience on Reddit. Gearbox flew him and a friend first-class to their studio, where they toured the facilities, met developers, and most importantly, got a sneak peek at Borderlands 4. Caleb described the game as "amazing," praising the experience as a whole. His trip also included a VIP tour of the Omni Frisco Hotel at The Star, home to the Dallas Cowboys World Headquarters.
While remaining tight-lipped about specific Borderlands 4 details, Caleb emphasized the unforgettable nature of the event, expressing gratitude to everyone who helped make it possible.
Caleb's Plea and the Community's Response
On October 24th, Caleb initially posted on Reddit, detailing his cancer diagnosis (a prognosis of 7-12 months, potentially extending to under two years with successful chemotherapy) and his heartfelt wish to play Borderlands 4 before it was too late. His "long shot" request resonated deeply with the Borderlands community.
The outpouring of support was immediate and widespread. Numerous individuals contacted Gearbox, urging them to grant Caleb's wish.
Randy Pitchford, Gearbox's CEO, responded swiftly on Twitter (X), initiating contact with Caleb and promising to explore options. Within a month, Gearbox fulfilled Caleb's request, providing him with early access to the game ahead of its 2025 release.
A GoFundMe campaign established to assist Caleb in his cancer battle has already surpassed $12,415, exceeding its initial goal. The story of his Borderlands 4 experience has further amplified support for his cause. This heartwarming tale showcases the power of community and the positive impact of fulfilling a dying fan's wish.
