Borderlands 4 to Introduce Photo Mode After Launch

Borderlands 4 will include a photo mode as a post-launch update. Discover what other features the developers are planning and explore the game’s official story trailer.
Borderlands 4 Prepares for Launch
Photo Mode Slated for Post-Release Update
Borderlands 4 will offer a photo mode, but it won’t be available at launch. On June 25, Creative Director Graeme Timmins shared via Twitter (X) that the feature was initially planned for release but was delayed to prioritize other critical game elements.
In a follow-up statement, Timmins explained, “We focused on refining key aspects that enhance the core gameplay experience. Photo mode was always part of the plan, but we needed to allocate time to features that directly improve the quality of play.”
Unlike Borderlands 3, which included photo mode at its 2019 launch (with consoles receiving it later), the developers have listened to community feedback from the previous title and worked to incorporate those insights.
Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford recently announced on Twitter (X) on June 20 that a fan-requested combat radar feature was added at the last moment. This tool helps players navigate the battlefield by detecting enemies, though it must be manually enabled in the settings, as it’s off by default.
Pitchford emphasized the value of community input, expressing gratitude to “dedicated fans who provided constructive feedback and thoughtful suggestions to make the game better.”
Official Story Trailer Unveiled at Borderlands Fan Fest
At the Borderlands Fan Fest on June 21, Gearbox and 2K Games revealed a new story trailer, showcasing the setting and narrative of Borderlands 4. The two-minute video offers a glimpse into the player’s journey on the planet Kairos.
The story centers on The Timekeeper and his oppressive Order, which rules Kairos. Vault Hunters, alongside Claptrap and the Crimson Resistance, must rally allies, gather resources, and fight to liberate the planet’s inhabitants.

Unlike the comedic tone of Borderlands 3, this installment adopts a more serious narrative, reducing humor and focusing on a grounded story set in a totalitarian world with weightier stakes.
Borderlands 4 is scheduled for release on September 12, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Stay informed with the latest updates by checking our article below!
