Breathtaking Video Pays Homage to Super Mario Galaxy in 'Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom'

A recent online video cleverly transforms The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom into a Super Mario Galaxy experience. Released in May 2023, Tears of the Kingdom—the sequel to 2017's Breath of the Wild—is the latest in Nintendo's acclaimed Zelda series. Its quality, like its predecessor's, is often compared to other Nintendo hits, such as Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and various Super Mario titles. This fan-made video highlights the surprising similarities between Tears of the Kingdom and one specific Mario game.

Reddit user Ultrababouin's "Super Zelda Galaxy" video, posted recently, reimagines Tears of the Kingdom using the aesthetic and gameplay elements of Super Mario Galaxy (2007). The edit, a nostalgic trip for many, cleverly recreates scenes from the Wii classic, including the iconic opening sequence featuring Mario waking up on a small planet with a Luma.

Ultrababouin shared their month-long project on the Hyrule Engineering subreddit, a community showcasing Tears of the Kingdom player creations. The video was an entry in June's design contest. Ultrababouin is a seasoned contributor, having previously created a Tears of the Kingdom version of the Master Cycle Zero and earning "Engineer of the Month" accolades in December and February.

The Master Cycle Zero, a horse-shaped motorcycle from Breath of the Wild, is absent in Tears of the Kingdom. However, the new game's build system allows for incredible vehicle construction. Hyrule Engineering members have demonstrated this impressive functionality, with user ryt1314059 even constructing a functional aircraft carrier capable of launching a working bomber!

The next Zelda game, Echoes of Wisdom, launches September 26th. A departure from tradition, this installment features Princess Zelda as the protagonist, rather than the usual Link.
