Carey Mulligan Joins Cast of Barbie Director's Narnia Reboot
The much-anticipated reboot of the Narnia series, helmed by the acclaimed writer and director Greta Gerwig of the hit Barbie movie, has added another stellar name to its cast: Carey Mulligan. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mulligan joins a distinguished ensemble that includes former James Bond star Daniel Craig, Sex Education's Emma Mackey, and the legendary Meryl Streep.
Greta Gerwig will once again take on the dual roles of writer and director for this fresh take on C.S. Lewis's iconic fantasy series, The Chronicles of Narnia. The upcoming film will adapt the prequel novel, The Magician's Nephew, which is set before the events of the beloved and well-known story, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Carey Mulligan, celebrated for her numerous awards and nominations including Oscars, BAFTAs, and Golden Globes, will portray Mabel Kirke, the mother of the story's young protagonist, Digory. Daniel Craig is set to take on the role of the titular magician and Digory's uncle, while Emma Mackey will bring to life a younger version of Narnia's infamous villain, the White Witch. Meryl Streep will lend her voice to the character of Aslan, the series' revered talking lion.
This isn't the first time the world of Narnia has been brought to the big screen. A trilogy of films released between 2005 and 2010 adapted the initial three books of the series: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. These movies featured Tilda Swinton, known for her role in Doctor Strange, as the White Witch, and Liam Neeson, famous from the Star Wars franchise, as the voice of Aslan.
Greta Gerwig's new adaptation of Narnia marks her first major project following the unexpected success of the 2023 Barbie movie. Starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, Barbie received eight Academy Award nominations and clinched the award for Best Original Song.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew is slated for release in 2026, promising fans a new journey into the enchanting world of Narnia.
