While awaiting the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, many are revisiting the classic DOOM and DOOM II. Good news for fans: development has resumed, and a recent update significantly enhances the experience.

This update for the DOOM + DOOM II compilation boasts improved technical stability and more. Crucially, it now supports multiplayer modifications created using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM. Cooperative play is also enhanced, allowing all players to collect items and introducing an observer mode for players awaiting revival. Multiplayer network code has been optimized, and the mod loader can now handle subscriptions exceeding 100 mods.

Looking ahead to DOOM: The Dark Ages, accessibility is a key focus. Players will enjoy extensive customization options, surpassing those in previous id Software titles. Executive producer Marty Stratton highlights the commitment to accessibility, allowing players to adjust enemy damage and difficulty, projectile speed and damage, and even broader game mechanics such as tempo, aggression, and parry timing. Importantly, Stratton confirms that prior experience with DOOM: The Dark Ages isn't required to understand its narrative, which connects seamlessly with DOOM: Eternal.
