May 26,25

The critically acclaimed series *Shōgun*, which swept up an impressive 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is gearing up for a much-anticipated second season. Cosmo Jarvis, renowned for his portrayal of pilot John Blackthorn, is set to reprise his role and will also step into the shoes of a co-executive producer for Season 2, as confirmed by an official FX press release.

In addition to Jarvis, lead actor Hiroyuki Sanada, who plays Lord Yoshii Toranaga, has committed to return for the new season. Sanada, who signed on last May following the show's renewal despite its initial limited series format, has been elevated to the role of executive producer after his contributions to the first season. The production of Season 2 is slated to commence in Vancouver, the original filming location, in January 2026.

FX has teased that the upcoming season will offer "a wholly original new chapter" to the narrative established in the first season, which was an adaptation of James Clavell's novel. The network provided insight into the connection between the two seasons:

"In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) battled for his survival as adversaries within the Council of Regents conspired against him. The arrival of a mysterious European ship, captained by the English pilot John Blackthorne (Jarvis), brought vital strategic insights that shifted the balance of power in Toranaga's favor, ultimately aiding him in securing victory in a pivotal civil war.

"Set a decade later, the second part of *Shōgun* delves deeper into the historically-inspired saga of these two men from vastly different worlds, whose destinies remain intertwined."

While fans eagerly await the return of this stellar series, there's hope that new episodes will grace our screens by the end of 2026. Until then, anticipation builds as we look forward to what promises to be another captivating chapter in the *Shōgun* saga.
