Cyberpunk 2077's sequel, codenamed Project Orion, is set to expand the game's universe by including a new city alongside the beloved Night City. During the Digital Dragons 2025 conference on May 20, R. Talsorian Games founder and game designer Mike Pondsmith provided some intriguing insights into the development of the sequel.

Although Pondsmith is less involved in this project compared to Cyberpunk 2077, he remains engaged with its progress. He shared, "I see the scripts. Last week I was wandering around talking to different departments and seeing what they had like, ‘this is the new Cyberware, what do you think?’"

He also confirmed the addition of a new city, stating, "I remember looking at it and going, ‘I understand the feel that you’re going for, and this really does work, it doesn’t feel like Blade Runner, it feels more like Chicago gone wrong’. And I said, ‘yeah, I can see this working’."

CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has also been actively recruiting for Cyberpunk 2, with a recent job listing for a Lead Encounter Designer. This role involves creating "memorable gameplay encounters that will thrill and excite our players." A key aspect of the job is to collaborate with the systems design team to develop "the most realistic and reactive crowd system in any game to date."

While details on Project Orion remain scarce, the involvement of Pondsmith and CDPR's ongoing recruitment efforts suggest that Cyberpunk 2 will enhance the already impressive world-building and storytelling of its predecessor.

In other developments, CDPR has released new footage showcasing the optimization of Cyberpunk 2077 for the Nintendo Switch 2. The studio has uploaded approximately 37 minutes of B-roll videos on their website, demonstrating the game's performance on the upcoming handheld console.

Despite some performance issues noted during Nintendo Switch 2's showcase events in New York and Paris, such as frame drops, CDPR Engineer Tim Green expressed satisfaction with the port's progress. On April 25, he told Game File, "We haven’t had to fight with fitting into memory, and the speed of the data storage has helped alleviate some of those early streaming problems. This has allowed us to focus our attention on improving other things, and we’re very happy with the result."
