Game Renamed to Abyss of Dungeons for Long-Awaited Mobile Launch
- Dark and Darker Mobile has been rebranded as Abyss of Dungeons.
- Beyond this new title, few, if any, other changes are currently evident.
- This rebranding signals Krafton's move to distance itself from Ironmace's ongoing legal disputes.
In an effort to distance itself from Ironmace Studios and the ongoing legal conflict with Nexon, Krafton has officially rebranded Dark and Darker Mobile. Now called Abyss of Dungeons, the change appears to be primarily in name—and likely other elements specific to the "Dark and Darker" IP.
For context, Ironmace Studios has been involved in a protracted legal battle with Nexon over allegations of misappropriating trade secrets. Nexon's core argument is that former employees, who founded Ironmace, used assets and concepts from their tenure at the company to develop Dark and Darker.
While the lawsuit remains unresolved, rumors of a potential name change for the mobile version circulated as early as February. The official rebranding to Abyss of Dungeons confirms those speculations.
Core Gameplay Remains UnchangedFortunately, this name change does not affect the core gameplay mechanics as we understand them. Dark and Darker Mobile had already introduced significant differences from its PC counterpart, such as a third-person perspective. Players need not worry about a complete overhaul of the existing framework.
For supporters of Ironmace, this development is undoubtedly disappointing. The hope is that the studio's legal issues will be resolved soon, allowing fans of Dark and Darker to embrace Abyss of Dungeons as a companion experience to the main PC game. This is particularly relevant with a soft launch scheduled for June 11th in Brazil, Thailand, Indonesia, and Mexico.
