The Butterfly Collector in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Explained
This quest kicks off in Osaka, nestled in the heart of Izumi Settsu. As you explore the bustling streets, you'll encounter a woman initiating a peculiar game involving origami butterflies. These butterflies are pinned to tree trunks, with real butterflies fluttering around them. Collecting these will lead you to cryptic notes revealing the dark truth: the Butterfly Collector isn’t a playful activity—it’s a sinister plot by a group of women targeting children from affluent families to seize power.
Naturally, stopping this scheme is crucial. There are five members within this faction, each requiring your attention. Let’s guide you step-by-step to track them all down.
Shucho
Shucho’s carelessness makes her easy to locate. She misplaced the child she abducted in the Fishermen’s District at the southeastern tip of Osaka. Dressed in green, she’s frantically searching the intersections for the missing child.
Approach her using either Naoe’s sharp blade or Yasuke’s blunt force, then rescue the child hiding behind some nearby horses.
Mucho
Cross the bridge northwest of the previous location and head towards the Kojo ruins. Mucho, disguised as a family jochu, is attempting to kidnap another child just south of the ruins.
Use the child’s resistance to draw her out, leading to a confrontation where she attacks without warning. Defeat her and reunite the child with their mother before moving forward.
Richo
Richo, a younger member of the faction, masquerades as someone of higher status despite speaking like a local. Travelers mention a suspicious woman entering and exiting a bamboo grove near Noda Village, across the water from Osaka.
Venture deeper into the grove to find Richo in pink attire. Eliminate her silently or through direct combat, ensuring the kidnapped child is saved.
Kacho
Kacho, the faction leader, resides just north of Nishinomaru Garden, west of Osaka Castle. This restricted zone teems with butterflies, signaling your arrival. Approach cautiously, as she commands respect—and fear—from her followers.
Confront Kacho in dialogue and prepare for battle. Her demise will conclude the quest, leaving one final detail unresolved.
Gamemaker
Lastly, the Gamemaker, who initiated the butterfly-collecting quest, awaits at her original location. A former victim herself, she designed the game hoping someone would solve the mystery and prevent others from suffering her fate.
Decide whether to punish her or grant her a second chance. Choosing the latter allows her to embrace a new identity and life. Regardless of your choice, eliminating the Butterfly Collector nets you 5,500 XP toward leveling up.
That wraps up everything you need to know about locating the Butterfly Collector and its members in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. For additional guidance, visit The Escapist.
