How Doom 2099 Functions in Marvel Snap

Doom 2099 is a 4-cost, 2-power card with a unique ability: "After each turn, add a DoomBot 2099 to a random location if you played (exactly) 1 card." These DoomBot 2099s (also 4-cost, 2-power) provide an "Ongoing: Your other DoomBots and Doom have +1 Power" buff. Crucially, this buff applies to both DoomBot 2099s and regular Doctor Doom.

The strategy revolves around playing exactly one card per turn to maximize DoomBot 2099 spawns. An early Doom 2099 can yield three DoomBots, significantly boosting your power. Pairing him with Doctor Doom on the final turn further amplifies this effect. Under optimal conditions, Doom 2099 functions as a 17-power card, potentially even higher with early plays or Magik.

However, two drawbacks exist. The random placement of DoomBots can hinder your strategy, allowing opponents to capitalize on unfavorable locations. Furthermore, Enchantress (recently buffed) completely negates the DoomBot 2099 power boosts.

Doom 2099's one-card-per-turn requirement makes Spectrum Ongoing decks highly viable. Consider these options:

Deck 1: Spectrum-Focused

Ant-Man, Goose, Psylocke, Captain America, Cosmo, Electro, Doom 2099, Wong, Klaw, Doctor Doom, Spectrum, Onslaught. [Untapped Deck Link]

This budget-friendly deck (only Doom 2099 is a Series 5 card) offers flexibility. Aim for an early Doom 2099 with Psylocke or Electro. Psylocke enables a powerful Wong/Klaw/Doctor Doom combo, while Electro allows for potent 6-cost card plays (Onslaught, Spectrum, DoomBots). Cosmo protects against Enchantress, and if an early Doom 2099 is missed, the deck can pivot to a traditional Doctor Doom strategy.

Deck 2: Patriot-Style

Ant-Man, Zabu, Dazzler, Mister Sinister, Patriot, Brood, Doom 2099, Super Skrull, Iron Lad, Blue Marvel, Doctor Doom, Spectrum. [Untapped Deck Link]

Another inexpensive deck (only Doom 2099 is Series 5). This deck employs a Patriot strategy, using early-game cards like Mister Sinister and Brood before deploying Doom 2099, Blue Marvel, and Doctor Doom or Spectrum. Zabu discounts 4-cost cards for early deployment if the Patriot strategy falters. Note that this deck sacrifices a DoomBot 2099 spawn on the final turn to play two 3-cost cards (e.g., Patriot and discounted Iron Lad). Super Skrull is included to counter other Doom 2099 decks. This deck is highly vulnerable to Enchantress.

Is Doom 2099 a Worthy Investment?

While Daken and Miek (released alongside Doom 2099) are weak, Doom 2099 himself is a powerful and cost-effective meta-defining card. Use Collector's Tokens if available, but don't hesitate to acquire him. He's poised to become one of Marvel Snap's most impactful cards, unless significantly nerfed.
