Project ETHOS: A Free-to-Play Roguelike Revolution

2K Games and 31st Union have joined forces to deliver Project ETHOS, a free-to-play hero shooter aiming to redefine the genre. The game combines the dynamic evolution of roguelikes with the strategic depth of hero-based combat, all within a fast-paced third-person perspective.

What makes Project ETHOS stand out? Gameplay footage and player feedback reveal a unique blend of constant adaptation and distinct hero abilities. Randomized "Evolutions" dynamically alter hero capabilities, forcing players to adjust their strategies on the fly. Transform your sniper into a close-quarters combatant or turn a support character into a solo powerhouse – the possibilities are endless.

Project ETHOS features two core game modes:

• Trials: The signature mode, Trials challenges teams of three in matches against both human and AI opponents. Collect cores, strategically choose when to extract, and use your earnings to unlock upgrades. Death means losing your cores, adding a high-stakes element to each run. Join matches in progress and experience the intense, non-stop action. Explore the map, collect XP shards, eliminate enemies, and complete events to level up.

• Gauntlet: This more traditional PvP mode is a tournament-style bracket. Upgrade your hero with each victory, aiming for ultimate supremacy. Elimination means waiting for the next round.

How to Participate in the Project ETHOS Playtest

Project ETHOS will be regularly updated based on community feedback. The playtest, running from October 17th to 21st, is currently limited to players in the US, Canada, Mexico, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy. To gain access, watch participating Twitch streams for 30 minutes to receive a playtest key. You can also register on the official website for a chance to participate in future playtests.
