"The Exit 8: 3D Liminal Spaces Walking Simulator Now on Android!"
The Exit 8 has now made its way to Android devices, offering a unique blend of elements at a price of $3.99. Developed by Kotake Create and published by Playism, this game combines the simplicity of a walking simulator with a chilling twist, making every step you take feel unsettling and full of suspense.
A Creepy Walking Adventure
In The Exit 8, players navigate through an endless underground passageway reminiscent of a Japanese metro station. The game traps you in a loop where the environment—tiles, lights, posters, and even a solitary figure walking towards you—repeats incessantly. The challenge lies in detecting anomalies. These could be as subtle as a change in a poster's graphic, a slight flicker in the lights, or as stark as a river of blood replacing the floor. The core mechanic revolves around spotting these subtle changes and reacting swiftly.
If you notice something unusual, you must turn back. If not, continue forward. The objective is to reach the eighth exit without a single mistake, meaning you need to identify and correctly respond to eight anomalies in a row. Fail, and you'll have to start over.
The Exit 8 Lets You Soak in a Surreal, Unsettling Atmosphere
The game's design draws inspiration from the concept of liminal spaces and the eerie phenomenon known as the Backrooms. It specifically mimics the claustrophobic corridors and repetitive architecture of real Japanese metro stations, such as Kiyosumi-Shirakawa Station in Tokyo. The Exit 8 engages players by compelling them to scrutinize their surroundings for the smallest details that could indicate danger or a shift in reality. This constant need to question your memory and perception ensures that each playthrough feels fresh and unsettling.
Initially released for PC in November 2023, The Exit 8 took about nine months to develop. It garnered 1.4 million downloads worldwide on Steam and is now available on mobile platforms. You can download it from the Google Play Store.
