FBI Seizes Major Nintendo Switch Piracy Website

Nov 18,25

A prominent website hosting pirated Nintendo Switch games, NSW2U.com, has been shut down by the FBI. The domain now displays a single image bearing an official warning from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, confirming the site has been seized.

This action marks the latest development in a series of anti-piracy initiatives targeting Nintendo game piracy this year. It follows closely on the heels of Nintendo’s own aggressive measures to combat piracy, including rendering new Switch 2 consoles inoperable when detected using piracy-enabling Flash card devices.

The notice currently visible on NSW2U.com states: "This domain has been seized by the Federal Bureau of Investigation," and confirms the seizure was carried out under a warrant issued pursuant to 18 U.S.C. 2323 by the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. The operation involved collaboration between the FBI and the Fiscal Information and Investigation Service (FIOD), a Dutch agency responsible for investigating financial crimes—indicating potential ties between the website and the Netherlands.

Prior to the seizure, several European countries had already blocked access to NSW2U.com after it was added to an EU blacklist in May. With the FBI’s intervention, the site now appears to be permanently offline.

IGN has reached out to Nintendo for further details regarding the shutdown and any potential legal actions against the individuals responsible for operating the site.

Nintendo has consistently taken a strong stance against piracy, pursuing substantial fines and even criminal charges against those involved in distributing or enabling unauthorized access to its games. However, the company’s recent strategy of permanently disabling Switch 2 consoles that use pirated content has sparked controversy. Critics have raised concerns about the impact on second-hand buyers who may unknowingly acquire affected consoles, and a Brazilian regulatory body has launched a legal challenge, arguing that Nintendo’s actions exceed acceptable boundaries.
