Hamaguchi highlighted the success of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in 2024, noting its numerous accolades and global appeal. Building on this momentum, the developers aim to broaden the FFVII fanbase with the third game, promising unique gameplay challenges.
Interestingly, Hamaguchi also mentioned being impressed by Grand Theft Auto VI, expressing his understanding of the pressure on the Rockstar Games team given GTA V's phenomenal success.

While Final Fantasy XVI's May 2024 launch sales underperformed initial projections, falling short of fiscal year targets, the exact figures remain undisclosed. Similarly, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth sales also lagged behind expectations, though Square Enix maintains that neither title is considered a complete failure. There's still confidence that Final Fantasy XVI can meet its sales goals within the allotted 18-month timeframe.
