Fitness Boxing Fever: New 'Hatsune Miku' Edition Rocks Switch

Feb 02,25

Farewell, dear readers, and welcome to the final regular SwitchArcade Round-Up for TouchArcade. This marks the end of a multi-year run, and while I'd hoped to continue through the Switch's lifecycle, circumstances have led to a different path. Next week, I'll share a special edition with a few embargoed reviews, but this is my last regular column.

Reviews & Mini-Views

Fitness Boxing feat. HATSUNE MIKU ($49.99)

Following Imagineer's successful Fitness Boxing series (including the surprisingly enjoyable Fitness Boxing Fist of the North Star), their collaboration with Hatsune Miku was a welcome surprise. I've been comparing it to Ring Fit Adventure these past few weeks, and Fitness Boxing feat. HATSUNE MIKU has impressed me.

This rhythm-boxing fitness game offers daily workouts, mini-games, and a dedicated mode featuring Miku's songs, in addition to the standard tracks. Note: it's Joy-Con only; no Pro Controller or third-party accessory support. The game includes difficulty options, free training, warm-ups, workout tracking, reminders, and unlockable cosmetics. While I can't comment on DLC yet, the base game surpasses Fist of the North Star, except for one flaw: the main instructor's voice is jarring and I found myself muting it.

Fitness Boxing feat. HATSUNE MIKU is a solid fitness title, successfully integrating Miku into the Fitness Boxing formula. It's best used as a supplement to Ring Fit Adventure or another exercise routine, rather than as your sole fitness program. -Mikhail Madnani

SwitchArcade Score: 4/5

Magical Delicacy ($24.99)

Magical Delicacy from sKaule and Whitethorn Games blends Metroidvania exploration with cooking and crafting. While I appreciate both genres, the combination feels slightly uneven. The exploration is surprisingly well-executed, despite some frustrating backtracking. However, inventory management and the UI require some adjustment.

The game boasts beautiful pixel art, charming music, and customizable UI settings (including text size), particularly beneficial for handheld play. I believe Magical Delicacy would benefit from further refinement, perhaps through early access or post-launch updates.

The Switch version runs smoothly, aside from occasional frame pacing issues. The haptic feedback is well-implemented. I found it more enjoyable on Switch than on Xbox Series X, making it ideal for handheld gaming.

Despite its potential, Magical Delicacy feels slightly underdeveloped due to inventory and backtracking issues. It's a good game, but some quality-of-life improvements would elevate it to essential status. -Mikhail Madnani

Aero The Acro-Bat 2 ($5.99)

Aero The Acro-Bat 2 is a surprisingly polished sequel. While not a massive success, it's a solid platformer that refines its predecessor, albeit at the cost of some of the original's charm. This release features an improved presentation compared to Ratalaika's usual emulation wrappers, including box and manual scans, achievements, a sprite gallery, a jukebox, and cheats. The only downside is the omission of the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive version.

Fans of the original Aero The Acro-Bat will appreciate this sequel, and even those who found the first game lacking might find this one more enjoyable. Ratalaika's improved emulation wrapper is commendable.

A great release for Aero fans and retro platformer enthusiasts.

SwitchArcade Score: 3.5/5

Metro Quester | Osaka ($19.99)

This prequel to Metro Quester acts more as an expansion than a full sequel, but that's not a criticism. It adds a new dungeon in Osaka, new character classes, and new challenges, while retaining the satisfying turn-based combat and top-down exploration of the original. The new setting introduces water traversal via canoe.

Fans of the original will find plenty to enjoy, and newcomers might prefer starting here. It demands patience and careful planning, rewarding strategic players.

A strong expansion that expands upon the original's systems in interesting ways.
