GAMM Is the Biggest Game Museum in Italy Where You Can Share Pieces of Game History
Rome now has the country’s biggest game museum. GAMM, the Game Museum, is now open to the public. Located in Piazza della Repubblica, it’s the brainchild of Marco Accordi Rickards, writer, journalist, professor and the CEO of Vigamus.
Marco Rickards is very passionate about preserving and celebrating video game culture. He calls GAMM a journey that blends history, technology and gameplay exploration. In fact, the Game Museum GAMM comes from the legacy of Vigamus. It’s another gaming museum in Rome that has hosted over two million visitors since 2012.
The new Game Museum GAMM spans 700 square meters across two levels and is divided into three mind-blowing thematic areas. Before I give you the details, catch a glimpse of the museum right here!
Here’s What You’ll See in GAMM, the Game Museum
First, there’s the GAMMDOME. It’s a digital playground with interactive stations combined with real artefacts from gaming history like consoles, donations and other objects. It’s all based on the 4 E Concept: Experience, Exhibition, Education and Entertainment.
Then, there’s the Path of Arcadia, or PARC for short. This area takes you straight back to the golden age of coin-op games. The classics from the late ’70s through the ’80s, with a bit of early ’90s nostalgia.
Lastly, there’s HIP, the Historical Playground. This one focuses on gameplay where you get to dissect the structure of games, their interaction mechanics and design rules. You can even think of it like a backstage pass to the history of gaming.
From Monday to Thursday, you can swing by the museum between 9:30 AM and 7:30 PM. On Fridays and Saturdays, the museum stays open until 11:30 PM. Tickets are priced at 15 euros, and you can check out more details on the official website of GAMM, the Game Museum.
