Sony and the acclaimed game developer Santa Monica Studio have unveiled the Dark Odyssey collection, an exciting update for *God of War Ragnarök* set to launch next week. This update introduces a range of in-game equipment that echoes one of the franchise's most iconic outfits, bringing a touch of nostalgia to players on PlayStation 5 and PC.

In a detailed PlayStation.Blog post, Sony outlined the festivities for the God of War 20th anniversary, with the Dark Odyssey collection taking center stage. Available as a free update on March 20, this collection offers a sleek black-and-gold aesthetic, ensuring Kratos and his companions look stunning as they navigate the realms of Norse mythology. Both Atreus and Freya will receive their own unique cosmetic sets, alongside various shields and weapons adorned in the Dark Odyssey theme.

The highlight of the update is undoubtedly the Dark Odyssey appearance and armor set for Kratos, which pays homage to a skin originally exclusive to players who conquered *God of War 2* on God Mode difficulty. Players can unlock this content from any Lost Items chest in the base game or instantly in *God of War Ragnarök’s* roguelike Valhalla mode post-update. Additionally, the patch will introduce the long-awaited feature to customize the appearance of Kratos’ weapons without impacting their abilities.

Given that *God of War Ragnarök* was released in late 2022, a single update alone couldn't encapsulate the series’ rich 20-year history. Sony has planned a comprehensive celebration, including downloadable social media assets (available here), an art showcase in collaboration with Los Angeles’ Gallery Nucleus, new merchandise, sales, vinyl releases that span the franchise’s history, and much more.

"On behalf of everyone at Santa Monica Studio, we are immeasurably grateful to have had the chance to build the legacy of this series with and for you, the fans of God of War," the studio expressed their appreciation.

To further celebrate 20 years of God of War, fans can look forward to an upcoming PlayStation symphony world tour starting next month. Additionally, insights into why the next God of War title needs to be just as creative as its predecessors are available for those interested in the future of the series.
