Netflix Reports Over 50% of Subscribers Watch Anime
Netflix made waves at Anime Expo 2025 with major reveals, highlighting that over half of its subscribers are anime enthusiasts.
The streaming giant shared these insights in a post during Anime Expo weekend, alongside announcements for upcoming series like Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, Sakamoto Days, and Dan Da Dan. Netflix noted that “more than half of its members” engage with anime content, a striking figure despite the lack of detailed metrics.
While Netflix hasn’t disclosed its latest subscriber numbers, it previously announced surpassing 300 million members during a January price increase reveal. This suggests roughly 150 million users are watching anime, as Netflix continues to bolster its investment in this vibrant animation genre.
These figures align with a recent Dentsu study, reported by Variety, which polled 8,600 consumers across 10 countries. It found 48% of Netflix subscribers are anime fans, compared to 32% of Disney+ viewers and 29% of Amazon Prime Video users. The study also revealed 31% of global consumers watch at least one anime weekly, with Netflix leading in the U.S., where 63% of its audience enjoys anime.
Over the past decade, Netflix has ramped up its anime investments. Anime adaptations of video games, including Castlevania, Devil May Cry, The Witcher, and Cyberpunk 2077, have proven especially popular. Original series like Beastars, Devilman Crybaby, and Pluto have also debuted, catering to diverse viewer tastes.
At Anime Expo 2025, Netflix reaffirmed its commitment to anime. Dan Da Dan Season 2 is currently releasing weekly episodes, with new content from Leviathan, Sakamoto Days, and My Melody & Kuromi expected soon. Subscribers can also anticipate more Record of Ragnarok episodes in December, alongside Beastars Final Season Part 2 in 2026 and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 at a later date.
