The film concludes with Sterns' head swelling after exposure to Banner's irradiated blood, hinting at his transformation into The Leader.

The Return of the Leader in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

The Incredible Hulk set the stage for The Leader's return, but Marvel's inability to produce another solo Hulk film due to Universal Pictures' rights has shifted his narrative to other MCU projects. Bruce Banner's journey has unfolded through the Avengers films and Thor: Ragnarok, and most recently, in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, where he left Earth for Sakaar and returned with a son, Skaar.

Rumors suggested The Leader might appear in She-Hulk, possibly pulling the strings of the Wrecking Crew, but that didn't materialize. Instead, glimpses in the trailers for Brave New World suggest The Leader is orchestrating other villains' actions, setting the stage for his confrontation with Sam Wilson.

Speaking at D23 in 2022, Onah stated, "Actions have consequences, and that's what's so great about what the MCU has been able to build... Tim Blake Nelson coming back as The Leader is such an exciting thing to explore because his story now is going to challenge Sam Wilson, our new Captain America, in a way that he never expected."
