Navigating the expansive, randomly-generated Synthwave world of the Overgrowth in Hyper Light Breaker can be a daunting task, but fear not—your trusty Hoverboard is here to make traversing this vast terrain a breeze. Although the game doesn't explicitly tell you, you can start using the Hyper Light Breaker Hoverboard right from the beginning.

The Hoverboard serves as an essential sprint mechanic, significantly boosting your movement speed to cover large distances efficiently while only slowly depleting your Energy. This guide will walk you through how to summon and ride your Hoverboard, as well as highlight its various attributes that make it indispensable for more than just quick travel in the Overgrowth.

How To Summon A Hoverboard In Hyper Light Breaker

To summon your Hoverboard and sprint in Hyper Light Breaker, simply hold down the Dodge input. Your Breaker will dash forward and seamlessly transition onto the Hoverboard as long as you keep the Dodge button pressed.

Controlling the Hoverboard is straightforward. By holding the left analog stick in any direction, you can lean the Hoverboard and turn, with the turn radius varying based on your speed. At maximum speed, turning can be quite slow, but at lower speeds, you'll find it much easier to maneuver.

To dismount the Hoverboard, just release the Dodge input. Additionally, the Hoverboard will automatically vanish if you exhaust your Energy while riding it.

Keep an eye on your current Energy level, displayed next to your Breaker's companion while you're on the Hoverboard or using the Glider. If your Energy gets low, take a moment to hop off and allow it to recharge, preventing any sudden dismounts.

Hoverboard Movement Tips & Special Uses

While you can't perform tricks or attack while on the Hoverboard, Hyper Light Breaker enhances its utility with several key features. One standout attribute is its ability to float on water, allowing you to effortlessly glide across inlets and rivers scattered throughout the Overgrowth. The Hoverboard functions identically on water as it does on land.

However, you can't summon the Hoverboard while already underwater. You must be riding it as you enter the water for it to keep you afloat on the surface. No matter how you enter the water, the Hoverboard will quickly return to the surface, ensuring your Breaker keeps moving forward.

Another useful feature is the ability to hold down the default Jump input while on the Hoverboard to duck and prepare for a jump. Although you can't double-jump while riding, the added speed can help you leap across wider gaps than usual. Ducking doesn't boost your speed or jump height, but it can help you time your jumps more precisely, especially for those challenging leaps.
