Hyper Light Breaker: Multiplayer Guide
Quick Links
Hyper Light Breaker, the eagerly awaited sequel to the beloved indie title Hyper Light Drifter, introduces significant changes to the original formula. Transitioning from a 2D pixel art style to a visually stunning 3D environment, the game also shifts from a linear RPG to a rogue-lite with extraction mechanics. One of the most exciting additions is the multiplayer feature, which enhances gameplay and interaction when teamed up with friends.
Playing Hyper Light Breaker with friends not only makes the game more enjoyable but also simplifies many challenges. This guide will walk you through the process of setting up co-op sessions with friends and joining random public groups for online matchmaking.
How To Play Hyper Light Breaker With Friends
To enjoy Hyper Light Breaker in co-op multiplayer with your friends, you'll need to create a Private multiplayer room. Start by spawning into the Cursed Outpost, the hub zone of Hyper Light Breaker. Navigate to the counter to the left of your commander, Pherus Bit, who is positioned just opposite the doorway leading into the Outpost.
Press the Interact button (usually R1 or RB) while at the counter to access the Multiplayer menu. Here, you can create your own Breaker Team, join an existing one, or check your Invitations. To play with friends, select "Create Breaker Team".
In the ensuing menu, enable "Password Required" and set a unique password. Once your private Breaker Team is established, you can invite up to two friends using your platform's social service, which supports PSN, Xbox, and Steam. The game supports groups of up to three players.
If your friend is already in-game, they'll see the invitation in the "Invitations" tab of the Multiplayer menu. Otherwise, they can join your session through the invitation link you sent them.
Your team may also appear in the general listing of Breaker Teams under the "Join Breaker Team" menu if there are open slots. If other methods fail, your friend can browse this list and join your Private group directly.
Share the password with your friend, wait for them to accept the invite, and get ready to embark on thrilling co-op runs in Hyper Light Breaker.
Random Online Matchmaking In Hyper Light Breaker
If you're looking to play multiplayer but don't have friends who own Hyper Light Breaker, the game's system supports the creation of public groups. You can either create your own public group by following the steps above but omitting the password, or join an existing public group using the Hyper Light Breaker matchmaking system.
In the Cursed Outpost, access the multiplayer menu and select "Join Breaker Team". Scroll to the bottom of the screen and choose "Join Random Public Breaker Team".
The game will search for available public, non-password-protected Breaker Teams and assign you to one. After a brief loading screen, you'll join the world of the Breaker Team creator.
To exit a multiplayer session, return to the counter in the Cursed Outpost and open the multiplayer menu. If you're currently in a session, a fourth option will appear at the bottom of the list to disconnect from the session.
Select this option to return to your own world. Alternatively, you can simply quit the game to end the multiplayer session.
