Insomniac Games Looks For More Game-To-Screen Adaptations

During the interview, Schneider expressed enthusiasm about expanding their intellectual properties into film and television, particularly referencing the 2016 Ratchet and Clank movie. "I think back to the Ratchet and Clank film from several years ago. And we kind of got an early start on that. So, of course, we’re interested in that kind of thing. We love Ratchet and Clank in particular," Schneider remarked. Despite the mixed reviews of the initial film, Insomniac's acquisition by Sony in 2019 has bolstered their confidence in future adaptations, leveraging Sony's successful track record with projects like The Last of Us.

Sony’s Video Game Adaptations Lineup

Sony's prowess in adapting video games to both film and television is evident, with hits such as the 2022 Uncharted movie and the critically acclaimed 2023 series of The Last of Us. Looking ahead, Sony announced several exciting projects at CES 2025, including The Last of Us Season 2, set to premiere on HBO in April 2025, and an Until Dawn live-action film scheduled for the same month. Additionally, fans can anticipate the Ghost of Tsushima Legends anime series on Crunchyroll in 2027, along with upcoming films based on Helldivers and Horizon Zero Dawn, although specific release dates for these latter projects remain undisclosed.

In a significant transition, Ted Price, the visionary behind Insomniac Games, announced his retirement. Price, who has guided the studio to create iconic franchises like Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank, and Marvel’s Spider-Man, decided to step down after over three decades of leadership. "I actually made this decision last year. For me, after over 30 years of leading Insomniac, I felt it was simply time to step aside and let others pave the way for our team," Price explained.

The mantle of leadership is now being shared by three seasoned Insomniac veterans: Ryan Schneider, Chad Dezern, and Jen Huang, who will serve as Co-Studio Heads. Price emphasized the importance of continuity and trust in the new leadership, stating, "I believe strongly that for us to continue our success, we need leaders at the top who are intimately familiar with how we do things, leaders who have helped build our culture and our processes, and who have earned people’s trust."
