Jason Momoa, renowned for his role as Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is set to make a thrilling transition to the rebooted DC Universe (DCU) as the iconic character Lobo in the upcoming 2026 film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Lobo, an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia, is known for his superhuman strength and immortality, making him one of DC's most formidable characters. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983, and like Superman, he is the last survivor of his now-extinct world.

Momoa has expressed his excitement about portraying Lobo, citing the character as his favorite in the comic book world. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, he teased fans with a glimpse of what to expect from Lobo's debut in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. He emphasized his nervousness about taking on the role but also his enthusiasm, noting the aesthetic similarities between himself and Lobo. "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play," Momoa shared. "That's the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It's kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he's pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike's really cool."

While Momoa's Lobo will indeed make an appearance in the film, he clarified that his role will be brief, stating, "It's her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit." This cameo is set to be a highlight for fans eager to see Momoa's take on the notorious bounty hunter.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is heavily inspired by the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. The story follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. The film stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, with Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother.

In January, DC co-chief James Gunn shared the first photo of Milly Alcock as Supergirl on Bluesky, announcing the start of filming. While the photo did not reveal much, it marked an exciting step forward for the project.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is slated for release in June 2026, following the premiere of James Gunn's Superman this summer. It will be the second film in the new DCU, with a Clayface movie set to follow in September 2026.
