Long-Awaited Warhammer 40,000 Animation Astartes 2 Is Back From the Dead With Incredible Teaser Trailer — but There’s a Catch

Mar 05,25

Games Workshop's highly anticipated Warhammer 40,000 animation, Astartes 2, has resurfaced with a stunning teaser trailer, captivating fans. However, a crucial detail emerges: the trailer showcases scenes not included in the actual animation.

Astartes 2 follows the success of the fan-made original, widely considered the best Warhammer 40,000 animation. Its impact is undeniable, inspiring Saber Interactive's Space Marine 2. Games Workshop subsequently hired the original creator, Syama Pedersen, for the sequel.

After years of silence, the teaser trailer dropped on January 29th, 2025, generating significant excitement. It depicts epic-scale battles, featuring diverse Space Marine chapters, various enemy factions (Tyranids, Orks, Tau), and intense melee, ranged, vehicle, and spaceship combat.

A post on the Warhammer Community website reveals a twist: the trailer's footage is not from Astartes 2. Instead, it's a compilation of scenes representing the characters' past lives, hinting at the final storyline.

While the teaser is visually impressive, its misleading nature is a concern. Many viewers, unaware of the Warhammer Community post, will likely expect the trailer's content to appear in the actual animation.

Despite this, the teaser fuels speculation. The final image suggests the characters might form an Inquisition-led Deathwatch Terminator squad. Space Marine 2 fans have already expressed their desire to see elements from the teaser, particularly the capes, incorporated into the game. Given Saber Interactive's ongoing updates, this remains a possibility.

Astartes 2 is slated for release in 2026 exclusively on Games Workshop's Warhammer+ streaming service.
