Love and Deepspace Is Adding Face Verification to Its Chinese Version

Apr 14,25

Love and Deepspace is set to implement a new face verification system in China starting April 2025, aimed at enhancing security measures. This might sound intense, but for Chinese players, it's an extension of the country's existing strict real-name authentication for online games. This system is specifically designed to prevent minors from accessing games rated 18+, such as Love and Deepspace in China.

The introduction of facial recognition is part of China's ongoing efforts to combat gaming addiction among minors, as outlined in the Minors’ Protection Law. Over the years, China has been tightening regulations on the gaming industry, including enforcing strict playtime limits for minors: 90 minutes on weekdays and three hours on weekends. Additionally, games must display 'Healthy Gaming Advice' to encourage responsible gaming habits. Facial recognition is already integrated into daily life in China, used for security in places like airports and banks.

What Does It Mean for Us?

For players outside of China, these changes are unlikely to have any impact. The verification systems are tailored to meet China’s specific regulations, and since Love and Deepspace is rated 12+ in most global app stores, there's no indication that face verification will be added to the international version in the future.
