Luigi’s Mansion 3 (2019)
Luigi's first leading role on the Switch came with Luigi’s Mansion 3, the third installment in his unique solo series. In this adventure, Luigi, alongside his green gooey clone, teams up with Professor E. Gadd to battle ghosts and rescue his friends from King Boo’s haunted hotel.
Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD (2024)
Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD is a refreshed version of the 2013 Nintendo 3DS game Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon. This sequel sees Luigi tackling ghostly challenges in the mansions of Evershade Valley, aiming to capture King Boo and save his brother once more.
Mario & Luigi: Brothership (2024)
While not solely a Luigi game, Mario & Luigi: Brothership showcases the duo on equal terms. This marks the first entry in the Mario & Luigi series since 2014’s Paper Jam. Players control both brothers as they navigate puzzles and platforming challenges to restore the kingdom of Concordia.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (2017)
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was the first Switch game to feature Luigi as a playable character. He's a middleweight racer with a balanced stat distribution that slightly favors speed and handling. His iconic appearance in an ad for the original Wii U version of Mario Kart 8 led to the creation of the Luigi Death Stare meme.
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle (2017)
Luigi made his next appearance in the Nintendo-Ubisoft collaboration Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. This tactical RPG includes both Luigi and Rabbid Luigi, a Rabbid dressed and behaving like his human counterpart, as potential party members.
Mario Tennis Aces (2018)
Luigi joined the court as one of 16 playable launch characters in Mario Tennis Aces. Known for his balanced, "all-around" gameplay in Mario sports titles, Luigi's specialty shot, the Pipe Cannon, allows him to soar into the air for a powerful spike.
Super Mario Party (2018)
Luigi is among the 20 playable characters in Super Mario Party. He's appeared alongside Mario in every Mario Party game, including the two others listed below. This was the first Mario Party game on the Switch and is Nintendo’s ninth best-selling game on the platform, according to the company.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (2018)
Luigi is an unlockable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, one of 12 characters playable across all five Smash games. LumiRank’s 2025 tier list, based on 93 ranked Smash players, ranks Luigi as an A+-tier fighter and the 18th best overall.
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe (2019)
Luigi is a playable character in the 2019 platformer New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, an enhanced version of the Wii U title that includes the New Super Luigi U expansion. In this expansion, Luigi stars with his higher jump, remixed levels, and a challenging 100-second timer per level.
Super Mario Maker 2 (2019)
In Super Mario Maker 2, Luigi joins Mario, Toad, and Toadette as one of four playable characters. This level-building platformer lets players create their own Mario levels using assets from various Mario games.
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury (2021)
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury allows players to play entirely as Luigi, just like the original Wii U release. Luigi's controls are similar to Mario's, but he has a slightly higher jump and less traction, making him feel 'floaty' and 'slippery'.
Mario Golf: Super Rush (2021)
Luigi tees off in Mario Golf: Super Rush with decent control and excellent speed stats, making him a top choice for the game’s new Speed Golf mode. His special shot, the Ice Flower Freeze, freezes the ground upon impact, creating a slippery hazard for opponents.
Mario Party Superstars (2021)
Luigi returns in the second Switch Mario Party title, Mario Party Superstars. Unlike the original Super Mario Party, Superstars is a collection of classic minigames, boards, and mechanics from the series' history.
Mario Strikers: Battle League Football (2022)
In Mario Strikers: Battle League Football, the latest Mario soccer/football game, Luigi is one of 16 playable characters. His well-balanced stats make him excel in technique, affecting dribbling, shot curving, and accuracy.
Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope (2022)
Luigi and Rabbid Luigi return in the sequel Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope. Labeled a Sneak Attacker, Luigi's ranged weaponry and low health make him a strategic choice in battles.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder (2023)
In the latest 2D Mario platformer, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Luigi is a playable alternative to Mario. The gameplay difference between the brothers is purely cosmetic, as they control identically.
Super Mario Party Jamboree (2024)
Luigi is playable in Super Mario Party Jamboree, the largest and arguably best game in the Mario Party series. Additionally, he features in the new Buddy mechanic, potentially changing a player’s dice rolls to 10s.
What's Next for Luigi?
The next opportunity to play as Luigi will be in a new Mario Kart game, set to launch with the Switch 2, featuring double the usual number of racers, up to 24 on each track. Additionally, Luigi is likely to join Mario in his next adventure. With numerous games rumored for the next Nintendo console generation, more updates are expected from a Nintendo Direct scheduled for April 2.-
