Hasbro has announced its ambitious plan to bring the iconic card game, Magic: The Gathering, to screens worldwide. In a collaboration with Legendary Entertainment, they are set to develop a shared universe that will encompass both movies and TV series, with the movie taking the lead.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Legendary Entertainment, the studio behind blockbuster hits like Dune and the Godzilla franchise including Godzilla vs. Kong, as well as Detective Pikachu, is eager to dive into this project. "We pride ourselves on being thoughtful caretakers of singular, beloved IP, and no property better fits that description than Magic: The Gathering," stated Legendary’s chairman of worldwide production.

While details are still emerging, it appears that the upcoming movie and TV adaptations at Legendary might not be directly connected to the previously announced Magic: The Gathering animated series on Netflix. However, there is a possibility that plans could evolve, integrating the animated series into this expansive shared universe.

Magic: The Gathering was originally launched by Wizards of the Coast in 1993 and has since become a global phenomenon among trading card games. Wizards of the Coast joined the Hasbro family in 1999, further solidifying the game's reach and influence.

Hasbro is well-versed in transforming its products into cinematic experiences, with successful adaptations like G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Dungeons and Dragons. The company is currently developing several other projects, including new G.I. Joe films, a Power Rangers movie, and a Beyblade movie, showcasing their commitment to expanding their beloved franchises across various media.
