Marvel Star Simu Liu Says He's Working to Get Sleeping Dogs a Film Adaptation

Simu Liu, the Marvel star, is attempting to revive the cancelled Sleeping Dogs film adaptation. Newsweek reports Liu responded to a fan on X/Twitter, stating he's actively working with rights holders to bring the project to the big screen.

The adaptation, initially announced in 2017 with Donnie Yen attached to star, was quietly shelved a year later. Yen recently confirmed its cancellation, citing years of invested time, effort, and personal funds, ultimately thwarted by the unpredictable nature of Hollywood.

Liu's intervention offers a glimmer of hope for fans of the critically acclaimed 2012 video game. The original game, available on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, follows Detective Wei Shen as he undertakes an undercover operation within a Hong Kong Triad. Its positive reception (earning an 8/10 from IGN) stands in contrast to the lack of sequels or further adaptations until now.

Whether Liu's efforts will secure the necessary rights and successfully launch the film remains uncertain. However, his involvement has reignited interest in a big-screen adaptation of this beloved action franchise.
