Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Swings Onto PC, but PSN Account RequiredMarvel’s Spider-Man 2 PC Releases in January 30, 2025
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the web-slinging adventure that wowed PlayStation 5 players in 2023, is officially swinging onto PC on January 30, 2025. The announcement was made during the Marvel Games showcase at New York Comic Con. Following the success of the PC ports for Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and its continuation, subtitled Miles Morales, this move wasn’t a complete surprise, but fans are still eager to see the sequel to the series leap from console to PC.
The PC version of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will come with all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a modern port. It is being developed and optimized by Nixxes Software, in close collaboration with Insomniac Games, PlayStation, and Marvel Games. Nixxes Software is primarily known for porting PlayStation games to the PC. Aside from the Marvel’s Spider-Man series, they have also ported the Horizon games and Ghost of Tsushima to the said platform.
"Bringing Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales to a new audience on PC together with Insomniac and Marvel Games has been a great experience for us at Nixxes," Community Manager at Nixxes Julian Huijbregts said in a press release posted on PlayStation’s Blog. According to him and Mike Fitzgerald, Core Technology Director at Insomniac Games, the PC port is going to have ray-tracing, ultrawide monitor support, and multiple graphical options "that make it feel at home on their platform."
If you’ve been looking forward to playing with keyboard and mouse or getting the most out of your ultrawide monitor, this version is for you. However, some features from the PS5’s DualSense controller, like adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, won’t be replicated.
The PC release will include all content updates that have been rolled out since the PS5 version’s launch. Players can expect to dive into the game with twelve new suits—including Symbiote Suit styles—as well as the ability to play in New Game+ and explore "Ultimate Levels." In addition to these, additional post-launch goodies, such as new time-of-day options, post-game achievements, and new features in Photo Mode, will also be available. More will be made available for those who purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition.
Despite all of this, however, Insomniac Games confirmed that the PC port won't receive new story content. While many fans are disappointed by this, those who have finished the game might understand why this is the appropriate move to take.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PC's PSN Requirement Could be Detrimental
Unfortunately, a growing trend among PlayStation PC ports has introduced a barrier to entry for players in regions without access to PlayStation Network (PSN). This requirement, which was not present in earlier titles of the series, means that about 170 countries are effectively locked out from enjoying the game. .
This trend began earlier this year when Sony announced that Helldivers 2 would necessitate a PSN account. Sony later reversed this decision, but the damage was done. Even now, regions without PSN access remain unable to play the game, leaving many feeling cheated.
Notable titles that have adopted this policy include God of War Ragnarök, Horizon Forbidden West, the Until Dawn remake, and Ghost of Tsushima. Even in these single-player games, a PSN account is required. This has led players to question why linking your Steam account to PSN is necessary for games that don't even feature online multiplayer.
With Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s PC release, all three Insomniac Spider-Man titles will finally be available on the said platform—solidifying Sony's efforts to expand its reach beyond the PlayStation consoles. While there's room for improvement in this strategy, it's already commendable that Sony is actively working to bring their exclusive franchises to a different platform. Whether you're a returning player or stepping into Peter and Miles' suits for the first time, January 2025 can't come soon enough.
Here at Game8, we awarded Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 a score of 88, stating that it is a great follow-up to "what was already one of the best, if not, the best game adaptations of Spider-Man." For more on our thoughts on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PS5, check out our article below!
