Marvel's Star Wars Series to Debut New Republic Era
Marvel Comics announces a May 2025 relaunch of its flagship Star Wars comic series. The new series, set after the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, will follow Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa as they establish the New Republic and navigate a galaxy still reeling from conflict.
Alex Segura, writer of the Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, pens this latest volume. Veteran Star Wars artist Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron) provides the illustrations, with Noto and Leinil Yu contributing cover art for the debut issue.
Segura and Noto's Star Wars unfolds approximately two years post-Return of the Jedi, focusing on the aftermath of the pivotal Battle of Jakku. The New Republic strives to solidify its rule, but faces challenges from opportunistic pirates, criminals, and other emerging threats exploiting the power vacuum.
"Having concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we're launching into a fresh, uncharted era," Segura explained to StarWars.com. "New galactic threats, enemies, and mysteries await our heroes, blending the familiar with the unexpected. These stories will be action-packed, featuring character moments fans expect, with twists on the galaxy's familiar landscape. We've designed it for easy entry, making any issue a great starting point."
Noto added, "Alex has crafted fantastic storylines and new characters, and I'm excited to bring them to life! It's thrilling to depict the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era, without existing film or TV versions as reference. I'm creating new looks while drawing inspiration from the actors of the 80s to capture the essence of this period."
Star Wars #1 launches May 7, 2025, coinciding with Star Wars Day celebrations.
This isn't Marvel's only post-Return of the Jedi comic. February sees the debut of Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, exploring Kylo Ren's journey after The Last Jedi.
