Marvel's Newest Thunderbolts Team Includes Wolverine, Hulk, and Carnage

With the Thunderbolts making their live-action debut soon, Marvel Comics is launching an ambitious new chapter for the team in print. The current Thunderbolts are heavily involved in the "One World Under Doom" crossover, but a completely new team will assemble shortly after the film's release.

Marvel unveiled New Thunderbolts—a series written by Sam Humphries (Uncanny X-Force) and illustrated by Ton Lima (West Coast Avengers), with cover art by Stephen Segovia. See the striking cover for issue #1 below:

While clearly inspired by the film—featuring Bucky Barnes as leader and a mysterious asterisk in the title—this New Thunderbolts roster is radically different. It includes newcomers Clea, Wolverine (Laura Kinney), Namor, Hulk, and Carnage (with Eddie Brock as the current host).

The series kicks off with Bucky and Black Widow confronting a universe-threatening situation involving Illuminati doppelgangers. They'll assemble this formidable, and volatile, team to tackle the crisis. Leading such a diverse group of powerful individuals, many of whom are known for their less-than-savory tendencies, will undoubtedly present unique challenges.

"I love every iteration of Thunderbolts," Humphries stated in Marvel's press release. "I'm thrilled to continue the franchise's tradition of high-octane action, explosive personalities, and surprising twists. This is a team of seven of the biggest badasses and loose cannons from across the Marvel Universe. Assembling a super team is like planning a dinner party—you need the right mix of guests. So I imagined a dangerous, disastrous, and utterly unhinged Marvel dinner party, and went from there."

"I'm having a blast working on this book with Mr. Humphries and the team," Lima added. "Look at this lineup…it's insane. They don't talk; they fight! And that's the most fun to draw. None of them are known for taking it easy, so neither am I."
