Monster Hunter Wilds To Extend Beta Test 2

PS5 Players Could Not Play For 24 Hours

Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) is set to extend their Open Beta Test 2 by 24 hours in response to the PlayStation Network outage that disrupted playtime over the weekend. The outage commenced at 6 PM EST on February 7th and lasted until 8 PM EST, leaving all online games on PlayStation consoles inaccessible, including the MH Wilds beta. PlayStation Network confirmed the restoration of services via their official NA X (Twitter) support account.

Although the specific dates for the extension remain unannounced, it is confirmed to be a 24-hour addition to compensate for the lost playtime. This extension might occur anytime between the end of Beta Test 2 Part 2 and February 27th, the day before the game's official release. Beta Test 2 Part 1 has already concluded, with Part 2 scheduled to kick off on February 13th at 7 PM PT. Players can look forward to resuming their adventures and perhaps encountering the amusing low-poly character glitch.

The Cursed Low-Poly Bug Returns

Capcom has acknowledged that the beta test builds are outdated and do not represent the final product. As such, players have encountered various bugs, including the entertaining low-poly character glitch, where textures fail to load, transforming characters, Palicos, and monsters into blocky figures.

Rather than frustration, the community has embraced this glitch, sharing their experiences and even expressing a desire for MH Wilds to pay homage to its polygonal beginnings. In an interview with GamesRadar+, the MH Wilds team expressed their amusement at the community's reaction to the glitch, while also emphasizing the importance of experiencing the game with optimized settings upon its official launch on February 28th, 2025.

Monster Hunter Wilds marks a new chapter in the acclaimed series, introducing an open-world setting known as the Forbidden Lands. Players assume the role of the Hunter, tasked with exploring this mysterious region and confronting its apex predator, the White Wraith. The much-anticipated action-RPG will be available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

PlayStation Network’s Largest Outage In Recent Years

PlayStation attributed the recent outage to an "operational issue" and issued an apology via their NA X (Twitter) support account. As compensation, PlayStation Plus members will receive an additional five days of service.

Despite this gesture, the community expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of communication from Sony during the outage, reminiscent of the 2011 PSN outage caused by a hacker attack that compromised 77 million user accounts and shut down services for over three weeks. During that incident, Sony provided regular updates and conducted a detailed investigation, which contrasts sharply with the recent event's handling.
