Following the apparent success of the Esports World Cup 2024, several game publishers have announced their return for the 2025 competition. Moonton's Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is the latest to confirm its participation, joining Garena's Free Fire.
The 2024 Esports World Cup featured two Mobile Legends: Bang Bang events: the MLBB Mid Season Cup (MSC) and the MLBB Women's Invitational. These tournaments brought together teams from around the globe in Riyadh. Selangor Red Giants emerged victorious in the MSC, while Smart Omega Empress defeated Team Vitality (ending their 25-game win streak) to claim the Women's Invitational title.
A Strong Showing, But Is It Enough?
Most games from the 2024 Esports World Cup appear to be returning. However, a noticeable trend is the absence of truly major championship events. The inclusion of a mid-season cup as MLBB's main contribution suggests the Esports World Cup might be viewed as a secondary event rather than the primary focus. This is a double-edged sword: it avoids overshadowing existing leagues but could also be perceived as less significant than other competitions.
Despite this, fans of the participating games will undoubtedly welcome their return to this prestigious tournament.
