MultiVersus's story is a cautionary tale for the gaming industry, a stark reminder of development challenges akin to the infamous Concord debacle. Despite its impending closure, the game's final chapter unfolds with the addition of two highly anticipated characters: Lola Bunny and Aquaman.

This announcement, however, hasn't been met entirely with enthusiasm. A significant portion of the fanbase has expressed deep disappointment, with some resorting to threats against the development team. MultiVersus game director Tony Huynh responded with a heartfelt message, pleading with players to refrain from such behavior.

Huynh offered an apology to fans whose desired characters didn't make it into the game, expressing hope that they'll still find enjoyment in the final Season 5 content. He also explained the complex factors influencing character selection, emphasizing that his control over these decisions was less extensive than some players believed.

Adding fuel to the fire, the game's shutdown has left some players unable to utilize their in-game tokens on the promised new characters—a perk included with the premium $100 edition. This unfulfilled promise likely contributed to the negative backlash and resulting threats.
