After the closure of Season 5, MultiVersus will transition to an offline mode, allowing players to enjoy the game "via the local gameplay mode, either solo against A.I. opponents or with up to three friends." To access this feature, players must download the latest version of MultiVersus during Season 5, from February 4 at 9 AM PST to May 30 at 9 AM PDT.

Upon logging in, the game will automatically generate a local save file linked to the player’s PlayStation Network, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store account, ensuring they can continue playing MultiVersus offline with all their earned and purchased content.

As of January 31, 2025, MultiVersus has ceased all real money transactions. The premium currency, Gleamium, is no longer available for purchase in the online store. However, players can still utilize any remaining Gleamium to access in-game content until the end of Season 5.

MultiVersus launched its public beta in July 2022, captivating fans with its free-to-play fighting game format, often likened to Super Smash Bros., yet distinct with its team-based 2v2 gameplay. From July 2022 to June 2023, the open public beta rolled out several updates and two Seasons' worth of content. The game was relaunched in May 2024 with enhancements including new characters, rollback netcode, a new PvE mode, new currencies, and more.

Despite these improvements, the game struggled with ongoing technical issues, frequent disconnections, and dissatisfaction with its microtransactions. Reports indicated a 70% drop in player count for PS4 and PS5 by July 2024.

MultiVersus will officially shut down on May 30 at 9 AM PDT, leaving behind a legacy with 35 playable characters from various franchises. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed their gratitude, stating, "We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey."

Until its final day on May 30, 2025, MultiVersus remains available for download on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
