Nintendo has officially confirmed that players will be able to utilize the innovative Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse controls directly on the Home screen. Since the grand reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, the gaming community has buzzed with excitement and speculation about the new functionalities of the Joy-Con controllers. Last month, we received official confirmation that the Joy-Con can operate in "mouse mode," enabling players to glide the controllers across surfaces and use the analog sticks to mimic left-click and right-click actions, much like a traditional mouse. What's more, the versatility allows for using two Joy-Con simultaneously in mouse mode, one in each hand, or pairing one in standard mode with the other in mouse mode.

Further insights have now emerged, showcased through the Nintendo Today app and circulated on X/Twitter. The Joy-Con 2's mouse controls extend to navigating the Home menu on the Switch 2. As demonstrated in a video shared by Stealth on X:

Nintendo elaborated on the functionality: "If you place the Joy-Con 2 controller on a surface with the attachment side facing down, a cursor will appear on screen. To display the cursor, simply set the Joy-Con 2 on a table or flat surface and move it as instructed. While using mouse controls, you can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus. These controls are applicable on the Home menu and within compatible software." When you're ready to switch back to using the thumbstick, just reposition the Joy-Con 2 horizontally.

Although the full list of compatible games remains undisclosed, Nintendo has demonstrated the technology working seamlessly with the Switch 2 versions of Mario Party Jamboree, Metroid Prime 4, and the unique wheelchair basketball game Drag x Drive.

The much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is slated to launch on June 5. Pre-orders kicked off on April 24, maintaining a price tag of $449.99 — and they sold out rapidly. For those eager to secure their unit, check out IGN's comprehensive Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
