Nintendo Unveils Game Card Hiding Feature
Nintendo's latest update for the Switch has introduced the new Virtual Game Card (VGC) system, allowing users to manage their digital game collections more privately. For those interested in keeping certain titles out of sight, the VGC system now offers a feature to hide games from your acquired list on Nintendo's VGC portal. This means that any games you choose to hide will not be visible to others browsing your list, catering to a variety of personal preferences.
I personally tested this feature and successfully hid games such as Suikoden I&II HD Remaster and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. While these games still show up on my OLED Switch if they're installed or loaded, they disappear from the list once uninstalled. This functionality can be accessed through the "Redownload Software" section on your Switch, but to view the hidden games, you'll need to navigate to the "Can't Find Software?" section and log into your Nintendo account. The same applies on the Nintendo website, where hidden games are tucked away in a separate folder under the "Can't Find Software?" option.
If you have games that you prefer to keep private—whether for sharing consoles with family or for personal reasons—you can now hide them away. However, this method is a bit cumbersome as you must unhide and reload the games to play them again. Additionally, even when hidden, the system still registers activity, such as when I played Suikoden I&II HD Remaster, which was reflected in my Play Activity.
This feature could be particularly useful as a parental control tool, perhaps to keep games like Mortal Kombat or Doom out of reach from younger players. It might also appeal to those who wish to maintain a more curated game list for social settings. Whatever your reason, the ability to hide Virtual Game Cards is now at your fingertips.
Alongside this update, Nintendo has revamped icons, introduced a system transfer feature in anticipation of the upcoming Switch 2, and closed a popular loophole for game sharing. For more details on these changes, you can explore the full rundown of the latest Nintendo Switch firmware update.
