No, surprisingly, this isn't Goddess of Victory: Nikke. It's actually Kakao Games' upcoming RTS RPG, Novafront, which is now in soft launch for Android in the Philippines.

As that somewhat cheeky description may suggest, Novafront fits comfortably within the gacha genre mold. You assume the role of the titular commander, leading your forces—known as Novas—against the otherworldly Quaser invaders. The premise feels familiar, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Where Novafront diverges from games like the currently popular Nikke is in its gameplay. Instead of a third-person cover shooter, it returns to a more traditional auto-battler RTS format. Here, you exert limited but direct control over your Novas and their actions on the battlefield.

Act on instinct

This translates into mechanics you've likely encountered before: tap to move units across a compact battlefield, tap to unleash a powerful ultimate skill—complete with flashy visuals. While the system works well enough, it remains to be seen how Novafront will distinguish itself from the crowd.

Published by Kakao Games, the company behind major titles like Odin: Valhalla Rising and Goddess Order, Novafront feels somewhat modest by comparison. Of course, these are early days, and there's time before its global launch for the game to refine its identity and prove its worth.
