Nvidia RTX 5090 Allegedly Leaked: Unveiling Preliminary Specs
Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090: 32GB GDDR7 Memory and 575W Power Consumption
Leaks suggest Nvidia's upcoming flagship graphics card, the RTX 5090, will pack a significant punch. Sources indicate it will feature a massive 32GB of GDDR7 video memory—double that of the anticipated RTX 5080 and 5070 Ti. However, this power comes at a cost: a substantial 575W power draw. The official unveiling of the RTX 50 series, including the RTX 5090, is scheduled for Nvidia's CES 2025 keynote on January 6th.
The RTX 50 series, codenamed Blackwell, represents Nvidia's next-generation graphics card lineup, launching over two years after the RTX 40 series. Building on its predecessor, the RTX 50 series will leverage Tensor Cores for AI processing, and incorporate features like DLSS upscaling, ray tracing, and PCIe 5.0 support (on compatible motherboards). This new generation will succeed the RTX 40 series (some models of which, such as the RTX 4090D and RTX 4070, have been discontinued). The RTX 50 series will directly compete with AMD's Radeon RX 9000 series and Intel's Battlemage GPUs.
Pre-CES leaks from Inno3D, an Nvidia AIB partner, provided further details on the RTX 5090. Their iChill X3 RTX 5090, a triple-fan card occupying over three expansion slots, confirms the 32GB GDDR7 memory. The packaging also highlights the 575W power requirement, a significant jump from the RTX 4090's 450W.
High Memory, High Power, High Price?
The RTX 5090's impressive specifications come with a likely hefty price tag. While Nvidia remains tight-lipped on pricing, early estimates suggest an MSRP starting at $1999 or more.
The RTX 5080 and RTX 5070 Ti will be announced alongside the RTX 5090 during Nvidia's CES presentation. The RTX 50 series will utilize a 16-pin power connector, though adapters will be available.
The entire RTX 50 series launch is eagerly awaited, and its impact on the market remains to be seen.
