"Oblivion Remastered's 'Spookmane' Ghost Hunt Engages Community"

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, with its array of spooky elements like skeletons, spirits, and zombies, has captured the attention of fans anew. Yet, an intriguing mystery has emerged: a ghostly horse, unseen in both the original 2006 game and the 2025 remaster, has been spotted by a player known as TaricIsNotASupport.

The discovery was shared in a Reddit post where TaricIsNotASupport described their encounter with the spectral horse after leaving the Frostcrag Spire. "So I was crafting stupid spells in Frostcrag Spire, as it's possibly my favorite way to have fun in this game, however this time when I left the Cosy Chaos Spire that has divided this community so very much I noticed something suuuuuuper strange in the distance," they wrote. Driven by curiosity, they rushed towards the apparition and discovered a spectral horse, which they dubbed "Spookmane."

Despite thousands of hours spent on the original Oblivion and over a hundred in the remaster, TaricIsNotASupport had never seen this horse before. This sparked a community-wide search through the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages website, but no mention of a spectral mount was found. TaricIsNotASupport confirmed that they could ride and interact with Spookmane, who functions like any other horse in the game, capable of fast travel and stabling.

Theories abound about the origin of Spookmane. Since TaricIsNotASupport is playing on a PlayStation 5, where mods are not available, a mod-induced phenomenon seems unlikely. Some speculate it could be a glitch, perhaps triggered by a spell gone awry, given Bethesda's reputation for bugs. ClaymoreBeatz commented, "Very weird, the wiki says there's only 2 unique horses, Shadowmere and unicorns. And there's no horse mods that I can see that do this so I highly doubt your [sic] lying about not being on PC, this is probably some sort of glitch that the new Remastered has or glitched magical effect. Armored horses names change to Armored horse I think so maybe it's an Armored horse that got hit by a spell and now its name and spell effect is glitched."

Others wonder if Bethesda and Virtuos, the developers behind the remaster, might have hidden this ghostly steed as a secret Easter egg for players to uncover. While this theory is less likely, it's an exciting prospect that could hint at other undiscovered secrets within the game.

As the community tries to replicate the appearance of Spookmane, no specific method has been identified yet. TaricIsNotASupport has pledged to continue their adventures with their new spectral friend, expressing affection for the mysterious horse: "This creature might be my favorite new friend I’ve made. Spookmane, you’re glorious and I love you."

Oblivion Remastered, powered by Unreal Engine 5 and developed by Virtuos, boasts significant visual and feature enhancements. It supports 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, with improvements to leveling systems, character creation, combat animations, in-game menus, new dialogue, a refined third-person view, and advanced lip sync technology. These enhancements have led some to consider it more of a remake than a remaster, though Bethesda has clarified their approach.

With the game now released, players are sharing tips, such as completing the Kvatch quest early to avoid level scaling issues, and exploring beyond Cyrodiil's boundaries into regions like Valenwood, Skyrim, and Hammerfell. For those diving into the remaster, comprehensive guides are available, including an interactive map, walkthroughs for the main and guild quests, character-building tips, early game strategies, and PC cheat codes.
