Osmos Returns to Google Play
The acclaimed cell-absorbing puzzle game, Osmos, is back on Android! Previously removed due to playability issues stemming from outdated porting technology, it's been resurrected by developer Hemisphere Games with a completely rebuilt port.
Remember the unique physics-based gameplay? Absorb microorganisms, avoid being absorbed – simple yet captivating! For years, Android users were unable to enjoy this award-winning puzzler, but now, a brand-new version is available on Google Play, optimized for modern Android OS.
Hemisphere Games explained that initial Android development relied on Apportable, a now-defunct porting studio, hindering further updates. The game was subsequently removed due to incompatibility with current Android systems (only running on obsolete 32-bit systems). This new release offers a completely revamped and playable experience.

A Cellular Masterpiece
If our praise of Osmos' iOS and Android versions (and its numerous awards) isn't enough, watch the gameplay trailer above. Its innovative mechanics have, ironically through a process of osmosis, influenced countless other games. Its pre-social media release is almost a shame; it would undoubtedly be a viral sensation on TikTok today.
Osmos represents a nostalgic yet worthwhile experience, a reminder of mobile gaming's boundless potential. While it's a unique throwback, many other excellent brain-teasers are available. Explore our list of the top 25 best puzzle games for iOS and Android if you need more convincing!
