Palworld PS5 Release Excludes Japan, Nintendo Lawsuit Likely the Reason

Palworld, showcased at PlayStation's September 2024 State of Play, is now available on PlayStation consoles following its Xbox and PC releases. However, a significant exception exists: the PS5 launch in Japan is indefinitely delayed.

Palworld's PlayStation 5 Debut and Japanese Delay

Palworld's PS5 Arrival Announced at State of Play

The PS5 version of Palworld launched globally as announced during the September 2024 PlayStation State of Play. Sony even highlighted the game, showcasing a Palworld character sporting Horizon Forbidden West-inspired gear.

Despite the global launch, Japanese PlayStation players are currently unable to access the game. This delay is strongly linked to ongoing legal action. Nintendo and Pokémon have filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Pocketpair, Palworld's developer.

Uncertain Future for Palworld's Japanese PS5 Release

Palworld's Japanese (X) Twitter account confirmed the global release, excluding Japan, and apologized for the delay. They stated that a Japanese release date is yet to be determined. While the exact reason for the delay remains unstated by Pocketpair, the pending lawsuit is widely considered the primary cause. Nintendo's lawsuit, filed in Tokyo Court, seeks an injunction and damages, potentially leading to Palworld's shutdown if granted. The injunction could halt Pocketpair's operations and result in the game's removal from the market.
