Lost Soul Aside: PSN Account Linking Removed for PC Release

Lost Soul Aside, the highly anticipated Sony-published action RPG, will launch on PC in 2025 without the controversial PlayStation Network (PSN) account linking requirement. This significant change expands the game's market reach, allowing Sony to sell the title in over 100 countries previously unsupported by PSN.

Developed by UltiZeroGames, Lost Soul Aside emerged from PlayStation's China Hero Project. This Devil May Cry-inspired hack-and-slash title has been in development for nearly nine years. While Sony publishes the game for both PS5 and PC, the company's previous mandate of mandatory PSN account linking for PC releases faced significant player backlash. This requirement severely limited sales in regions without PSN support.

The decision to omit PSN linking for Lost Soul Aside's PC version is a notable departure from Sony's previous policy. Initially, the game's Steam page listed PSN linking as a requirement, but this was swiftly removed within a day of the December 2024 gameplay trailer release. This marks only the second time Sony has reversed this policy, the first being with Helldivers 2.

This move is a welcome relief for PC gamers in unsupported regions. It also suggests a potential shift in Sony's approach to PC game releases. The poor PC performance of games requiring PSN linking, such as God of War Ragnarök (which saw significantly fewer Steam players than its predecessor), may have influenced this decision. While the exact reasons remain unclear, it's likely Sony prioritizes maximizing Lost Soul Aside's player base and sales potential.
